Subtle nausea and a numbness that hums through my body persist as I slouch down on the bench and take in the city lights dancing in effervescent transmutation. An apartment block morphs into a gigantic robotic head. A mirrored skyscraper shimmers and bends to a silent tune. A red blue green glow blends and pulses into the air. The reflection in the harbour is disturbed with a gentle churn from the breeze but then like a hand running through my hair from behind and penetrating my skull, it glasses over and the cityscape is there as it should have been, hallucination gone and the night becomes stiller than a frozen instant. The water is silver and smooth, glimmering like a liquid mirror but somehow alive and drawing me in and I realise I’m holding my breath.
